Reports on the status of childrens

A reference bank on pre-determined child indicators developed that are made available for various purposes such as advocacy, training, workshops, seminars and publications. With various government departments, national and international agencies releasing statistics on a wide range of issues concerning children, it is important for this information to be collated and presented in a reader friendly format.

Statistics collected throw light on a range of indicators pertaining to the welfare of a child like pre-primary education, school facilities, HIV/AIDS, Maternal Health, Immunization and Child Labour. The information has first been presented for Karnataka followed by district-wise breakup of the statistics. A column on remarks is available commenting on the gaps of the services that have been made available to the children.

The aim of these district cards is to be able to analyse and track trends of various issues with the relevant information available at a glance. This data can be useful to NGOs/government personnel working in a particular district to understand the current situation of a child keeping multiple indicators in view. It is also helpful for anyone interested in doing a comparative study of districts across a particular indicator or few indicators.

The district cards are a helpful tool for advocacy/lobbying giving specific statistics for issues pertaining to child rights. The intent behind this is to minimize the difficulty often encountered in finding and collating relevant information from various sources. Many are often unaware of whom to approach for these statistics and a lot of resources are spent in doing this groundwork. Hence this attempt to make this information readily available for all those interested in the state of the child in Karnataka and its districts.

Greater understanding of the situation of children, based on evidence derived from data, research and evaluation, are critical components for evaluating effective implementation of laws and policies. Hopefully, by equipping oneself with relevant information, there is more accountability and pressure to ensure no child is left behind.
